With Patrick and I moving into our house this month I think it's the perfect time to actually start creating the things I've pinned to my boards! We have a lot of rooms and walls to fill, and DIY is both fun and tends to be less expensive. And I of course figure, why not blog these new creations?! :-)
Now I won't be including recipes on here unless it's some knock your socks off meal that needs to be shared. I have tried quite a bit of my pinned recipes and actually made a board titled "Tried & True Recipes" There are some tasty dishes on there! I'm very honest and put my suggestions at the end in between asterisks (**-**)
The first project I'm tackling is this DIY Calender Journal. I instantly loved this idea! It's a daily calender that can be reused each year and actually gets better with time. You simply write the year and what special thing happened on a particular day. I'm realistic and know I will not be writing daily highlights. Quite frankly I don't think I'll care 10 years down the line if I cleaned and watched TV on a particular day. However, this can be extremely useful with a new home. I plan to use it to remember dates that we make upgrades or make a big purchase. I know from going through our home improvement projects in Pittsburgh how easy it is to forget all the updates you make and when you make them...often times they all run together. This time around I don't want to make that same mistake and I think this little creation will help me. I'm sure I'll document some sentimental dates as well, which I'm sure will make me smile as I come upon them as years have gone by :-)
Let's be honest though, I'm not showcasing this calender journal on my new pretty desk in an old fruit box...it's just not my style. Let me show you how I "Magified" it :-)
What You'll Need
4 - 100 packs of index cards
Scrapbooking Paper
Double Sided Tape (I use scrapbooking sticky squares)
Hole Punch
Suede Lace
I first dated each index card January 1st - December 31st. To make things simpler on your life, you can get Matstack's (Scrapbooking paper pre-cut to 4.5 x 6.5) The index card will fit perfectly! I however took the more difficult road and cut 12 x 12 sheets of double sided scrapbooking paper (K&Company has LOADS of great double sided papers!) down to the size of a Matstack (I was able to get 3 per page). I then used my scrapbooking adhesives (basically small squares of double sided tape) to bond the index card to my colorful paper. I have a scrapbooking tool that rounds edges so I rounded each edge (Unnecessary, but will help it keep a clean look by not bending so easily.) Once complete I punched a hole in the top right corner and strung each page onto some suede lace. I initially wanted all the pages to be strung together but it was a.) too thick! and b.) too heavy! So I broke them down to monthly piles and just added a page with the name of the month. My new creation will easily hang on a nail on the wall 1.) keeping it out of the way until needed and 2.) adding a splash of decor and color in our office :-) Here are some pics to give you some visuals...
